Endeavour Community Sailing, a nonprofit organisation that builds self-confidence, teamwork and life skills by engaging youth from diverse backgrounds across Bermuda in hands-on experiential learning through sailing, is seeking applications for the position of Operations Manager.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful applicant will be an experienced, highly motivated professional, passionate about youth sailing, experiential education and growing participation in the sport with a strong background in sailing instruction and sailing centre operations.

Using your career sailing experience, managerial and organisational skills you will be responsible for overseeing delivery of Endeavour’s experiential education programmes, leading the fleet maintenance across the organisation whilst overseeing facilities management to ensure smooth operations at all times.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the management team and board to fulfill mission of the organisation
  • Supervise, mentor and support instructional staff at two locations by providing direction, input and feedback toward ensuring effective and efficient programme delivery
  • Ensure effective staff coverage as required, filling in as necessary
  • Lead the maintenance schedule for sailing and safety fleets, hardware and all facilities
  • Oversee safety management across facilities and operations ensuring safety protocols are implemented to best practice and programme delivery is kept to a high standard
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with operations and programme activities and implement appropriate action plans to control the risks
  • Develop an annual operations budget and actively manage to ensure compliance to fiscal policies and required reporting
  • Support all events, sponsor engagements and community outreach activities
  • Provide regular strategic and operational updates to the Board ensuring that they are kept fully informed of successes, challenges and adherence to budget and plan

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • University degree or equivalent management working experience
  • RYA Senior Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat instructor
  • RYA Fun & Safeguarding Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience at a sailing centre, preferably leading a team of youth sailing instructors in a youth development, community sailing, or education setting
  • Demonstrable experience and proven success teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math through sailing curriculum
  • Demonstrated knowledge of boat maintenance including; basic engine and rigging with experience in operating, managing and maintaining sailboats, sail equipment, powerboats and docks
  • Financial management and procurement experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, web navigation, and social media applications
  • High-energy, hands-on self-starter with proven ability to multi-task
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills with the ability to present information in both one-on-one and group environments
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and professional demeanor to promote the organisation with the utmost professionalism at all times
